IHSA CLASS 1A ROCK FALLS REGIONAL
The Rebels Cross Country teams made the trip north Saturday (Oct. 26) to take part in the IHSA Class 1A Rock Falls Regional held at Centennial Park in Rock Falls. The Rebel Girls finish a distant 2nd behind the Class 1A #4 ranked Rock Falls (17 points - 5 runners in the top 6) in the team race with 95 points. Having to finish as one of the top 7 team to advance to the Oregon Sectional, the Girls were successful for the 4th straight year. The Girls had all 7 of their runners inside of a 2 minute split (1:54). Olivia Frail (19:51) started the team scoring with her 11th place finish. Following close behind and rounding out the scoring were Ashley Orrick (17th - 20:45), Josie Price (21st - 20:59), Alyssa Dyken (26th - 21:23) and Trinity Shimmin (27th - 21:24). Paige Rewerts (33rd - 21:41) and Lena Becker (35th - 21:45) were the other finisher in the Girls tight pack of seven. Alyssa for the fourth straight race set her new all-time Personal Best time. Trinity for the second straight week set a new Personal Best time. Olivia, Josie and Lena times in the race were Season Best for each of them.
In their race, the Boys finished 13th ending their season. As was the case most of the season, Alex Welch (18th - 17:30) led the Boys just missing qualifying for the Oregon Section by being one of the top 5 runners not on one of 7 qualifying teams. Alex was nipped by one second by a Kewanee runner for the fifth and last spot. Last year Dawson Dyken missed going as an individual by 5 seconds. No Rebel Boys team or individual has ever gone to a Sectional race. The other 4 finishers for the Boys were Caden Daum (61st - 18:55), Payton Stahl (73rd - 19:26), Rilley Bowen (76th - 19:34) and Brett Browning (86th - 20:08). Alex's time lowered his school record he had set last week at the Peoria Heights Invite by 10 seconds. Caden also set a new Personal Best time going under 19 minutes for the first time. With no seniors on the team, the Boys have the opportunity to get better next year and make some school history.
There were 16 school at the Rock Falls Regionals. The Girls race had 11 school with full teams (5 - 7 runners) and 5 schools with teams with less than 5 runners running as individuals. The Girls race had 75 finishers. The Boys race had 13 full teams and 5 teams running as individuals. The Boys race had 100 finishers.
